1.3 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The MVME710 p r o v i d e s a convenient adapter between t h e u s e r ' s DB25 S e r i a l I / O
cable connectors and t h e MVME332 I n t e l l i g e n t Serial I / O module. T h e MVME710
connects t o t h e MVME332 v i a a DIN 41612 C64 connector and 64 conductor ribbon
cable connection scheme. E i g h t standard 2 5 c o n d u c t o r s u b m i n i a t u r e D -type
connectors (DB25s) a r e mounted on t h e MVME710's extruded f r o n t panel f o r user
serial I / O equipment connection.
Each o f t h e s e r i a l p o r t s o n t h e MVME710 can be configured i n e i t h e r t h e
"Connect t o Terminal" ( a s a DCE) o r t h e "Connect t o Modem" ( a s a DTE)
configuration v i a t h e jumper array associated w i t h each p o r t . N o t e t h a t each
MVME710 s e r i a l p o r t i s completely independent a n d , t h e r e f o r e , w i l l s u p p o r t
many d i f f e r e n t u s e r c o n f i g u r a t i o n s p e r MVME710. T h e "Connect t o Terminal"
configuration supports most t e r m i n a l equipment a n d s e r i a l p r i n t e r s . T h e
"Connect t o Modem" c o n f i g u r a t i o n i s useful f o r i n t e r f a c i n g modems o r other
computer s e r i a l p o r t s w i t h t h e MVME332.
Note t h a t t h e MVME332 and MVME710 support o n l y RS-232C e l e c t r i c a l l y compatible
equipment i n t h e aforementioned configurations. Because t h e MVME332's I / O i s
already R S -232C c o m p a t i b l e , t h e MVME710 merely provides a convenient RS-232C
interconnect s t r a t e g y b u t incorporates no a c t i v e c i r c u i t r y.
