About the Monitor 8
Monitor 8 is a 24 x 16 x 8 monitor mixer, 6-channel
headphone amplifier and USB/AVB audio interface
with console-style 48-channel mixing and DSP
effects. Monitor 8 can mix 24 inputs, multi-
channel computer audio, and dozens of AVB audio
network channels to eight stereo busses: Main, Aux
and monitor groups A thru F.
The Monitor 8 can operate as an audio interface for
a studio workstation (DAW), as a standalone
mixer, or as an auxiliary monitor mixing system in
the studio or on stage. The following sections
provide a brief overview of its main features and
characteristics.
State-of-the-art A/D and D/A conversion
Monitor 8’s analog section employs state-of-the-
art 24-bit DACs or ADCs, which deliver analog
recording and playback with remarkably high
dynamic range at sample rates from 44.1 to 192
kHz.
Complementary I/O configurations
Monitor 8 delivers an exceptional amount of
analog and digital audio I/O. In addition, it is
designed to complement MOTU’s other AVB-
equipped audio interfaces, to deliver a wide range
of I/O options. You can mix and match several
interfaces and operate them as a unified I/O and
mixing system. The following sections provide a
bird’s-eye glance of the I/O configurations offered
by each interface in the MOTU AVB family.
Each interface provides a variety of analog and
digital interconnects, all active simultaneously,
designed to provide everything you need for a well-
equipped recording studio.

40 simultaneous audio channels (54 connections)
Network I/O
Monitor 8 is also capable of handling eight
8-channel banks of network audio input and
output for an additional 64 channels of
simultaneous audio I/O.
Other MOTU AVB interfaces
The Monitor 8 is part of a larger family of audio
interfaces, summarized below, with
complementary I/O configurations.
