Safety concept of syngas analyser
0016
•
WARNING
This device is not suitable for use in explosive areas. It does
not have ATEX or comparable approvals.
The Syngas instrument was designed to measure the quality of useful gases.
Since these gases are often present in explosive concentrations, the instrument
has some safety measures which are explained in this chapter. The device has
the following safety concepts:
•
Fan monitoring, for permanent dilution.
•
Internal LEL sensor, to monitor the interior of the housing.
•
Gas reduction nozzles, to reduce the incoming gas flow inside
the lines.
•
External switching unit to switch on the analyzer in a safe
environment.
2.5.
Fan monitoring
The analyser has a monitored fan, which is intended to guarantee that sufficient
ambient air always flows through the housing. This prevents an explosive
atmosphere from building up inside the housing. The volume flow of the fan
must be at least 10 l/s.
If this volume flow is not reached, a system alarm appears. If the error is not
corrected, the device switches itself off.
2.6.
Internal LEL sensor
The internal LEL sensor is an unit, which monitored the entire inner housing. If a
certain gas concentration is exceeded a system alarm appears. If the error is not
corrected, the device switches itself off.
2.7.
Gas reducing unit
The gas flow is reduced by a reducing unit. If there should be a leak in the gas
paths, this guarantees that only a defined quantity of gas can escape into the
housing. Fan monitoring guarantees that, in the event of such a fault, the gas
quantity is diluted to such an extent that no explosive atmosphere can arise.
2.8.
External switching unit
The external switching unit is designed to allow the unit to be switched on from
a safe distance during commissioning or start-up, following a system alarm.
