Water Operation
Water Load Capacity of the Mudd-Ox
Make sure to observe the vehicle load limits in the water (1,000 lbs.) less the weight of accessories, and distributed evenly. Only operate the
Mudd-Ox in calm water. Under no circumstances should you operate a Mudd-Ox in open waters with a snow plow attached.
Vehicle Preparation
First complete the vehicle preparation procedures as described on page 17. Located at the bottom rear of the Mudd-Ox are two drain plugs.
Verify they are screwed in and watertight. Grease the axle bearings and verify they are watertight. Look for any punctures or cuts in the
lower body. Distribute all occupants and cargo evenly throughout the vehicle. If the vehicle is overloaded, do not enter the water. Bring a
paddle in case of emergency.
Occupant Preparation
All occupants must unlatch their safety belts before entering water, and wear flotation devices. If the Mudd-Ox is equipped with an alumi-
num top, locate the exit hatch above the front seat and the side door handles. If the Mudd-Ox is equipped with a canvas top, unzip the doors
and roll them up. Make sure all occupants know the vehicle exit locations in case of emergency. If there is an emergency, all occupants are
to leave the vehicle quickly and get to safety.
Entering Water
Ensure drain plugs are installed. (Page 20 Figure-1). Mudd-Ox can only be used in calm water. Drive slow and steady. Only enter water at
an angle of 10 degrees or less to prevent water from flowing into the Mudd-Ox. Stay near the shore. Do not operate in waters with current
or open water such as large lakes and oceans. Only enter water if the Mudd-Ox Fort Mac is equipped on tracks with swimming capabilities,
or if outboard motor is installed. See outboard motor owner’s manual for information. Do
not
enter water with plow installed. Vehicle will
become unbalanced and dangerous.
Frozen Water
Check with your local DNR on instructions for measuring ice thickness, color, temperatures and procedures for operating vehicles on ice.
Ensure ice can hold the weight of your Mudd-Ox with all occupants and accessories. Be prepared in the emergency of breaking through the
ice. If the vehicle breaks through: Keep the bilge pump running. Safely secure the winch to ice that will support the weight of the vehicle.
Point the vehicle straight, and winch evenly up the ice. Do NOT pull just one side of wheels on the ice, as the vehicle may rollover.
Note:
We
recommend to remain in the vehicle and wait for contacted rescue services.
