Bearing Maintenance
Axle bearings require basic maintenance to keep both the bearing healthy and keep the Mudd-Ox watertight. This is achieved by greasing each
individual bearing through its grease fitting.
Worn Bearings:
To see if a bearing needs replaced, simply raise the Mudd-Ox. Grab a wheel and at-
tempt to wiggle it up/down. If the entire axle assembly moves, there is a bad bearing(s) that needs replaced. If not, simply grease.
1. Safely raise the Mudd-Ox and remove all tires, floor boards, lower seats and engine cover. Next locate all bearings as shown in the diagram on
the next page.
Mudd-Ox GT/XL has

axle bearings.
For each axle, there are 2 bearings outside the body and 1 inside.
Total 3 bearings per axle
(Figure-1).
2. Each bearing is encapsulated by bearing flanges. There is both an inner and an outer. Only the outer flange will be easily visible. Located on the
outer bearing flanges is a small grease fitting shown as “X” in Figure-1 below.
3. Connect the grease gun onto the fitting as shown in Figure-3, 4. Slowly pump grease into the bearing flange. Once it begins to seep out of the
flanges, immediately stop. If the grease is only seeping around the grease gun tip, the tip is not fully connected to the grease fitting.
Note:
It is recommended to start on the outer driver front axle of the Mudd-Ox and work your way around the outside axle bearings. Then, start
at the inner driver front axle and repeat. This is to ensure no bearings are forgotten. Only use high-temperature wheel bearing grease.
