Parking Brake Adjustment
Over time, the Mudd-Ox parking brake may become worn and out of adjustment. This is apparent when it will no longer hold the Mudd-Ox in place.
Operators should pull up on the parking brake lever and count the number of “clicks” it takes for the lever to fully engage the caliper pads. If the
number exceeds approximately 5-6 clicks, the system needs adjusted. If the steps below do not fix the problem, new calipers may be required.
Steps
1. Ensure there is no oil or debris on the brake system, and the parking brake truly needs adjusted.
2. Remove operator lower seat. Locate the brake calipers. There are (2) per Mudd-Ox, one above each brake rotor (Figure-1).
3. Start with the driver side brake caliper. Towards the
inside
of the Mudd-Ox, there is a bolt with jam nut. Use an 11/16 wrench to
loosen
the jam
nut.
4. Then, use a 7/16 wrench to turn the bolt
clockwise
. This will tighten the adjustment on the brake caliper, effectively reducing the distance
needed the engage the pads against the rotor. Tighten bolt until the caliper arm is no longer bottoming out against the mounting bolt (Figure-2).
5. Now simply tighten the caliper jam nut.
6. Repeat steps #3-5 for passenger side.
Note:
Adjust the same amount as driver side.
7. After adjusting both sides, verify all jam nuts are tight. Then pull up on the parking brake lever. Count the number of clicks to fully engage the
caliper pads. If it is
more than 4-5, you must further increase
the brake adjustment. If it is
less, you must decrease
(Figure-3).
