Repairing a Swamped GT/XL
“Swamping” refers to the unfortunate event when a Mudd-Ox fills with water. This can be caused by improper use of the vehicle such as en-
tering large bodies of water and water with current. If safely possible, shut off the Mudd-Ox before it fills with water. A running machine can be
faced with fatal mechanical failure if submerged in water. It’s not guaranteed the mechanical components will survive if shut down beforehand.
However, there are steps to clear water out of the system.
Note:
All warranties are void with a swamped machine. Proceed at your own risk.
Steps
1. After swamping the Mudd-Ox, immediately tow onto land (See page 36). Remove drain plugs as shown on page 22 to remove all water from
the Mudd-Ox body. Then, haul to a mechanical repair facility. Remember each minute water sits inside the machine, engine and hydraulics is
a minute for rust and corrosion to form.
2. Once in a facility, begin with the hydraulic system. Complete oil change steps #1-11 on page 50-51. Do not continue on, as the engine still has
water. Attempting to turn over the engine may be catastrophic. You will complete these steps later.
3. Now prepare the engine. Remove the air filter, drain any water inside the intake manifold. Replace air filter if necessary.
4. Complete engine oil change steps #1-6
only
on page 49.
5. There is most likely water inside the engine cylinder walls. Remove the fuel injectors. When it is time to start the engine, this will allow water
to escape through the fuel injector holes. Not doing this may result in damaged engine internals. See manufacturer’s engine service manual
for detailed information.
6. Complete engine coolant change steps #1-7 on page 39.
7. The fuel tank needs cleaned out. Use a fuel-safe suction pump to remove all fuel from the fuel tank, or see #8 to drain with the fuel pump.
8. Now the fuel line itself needs cleaned out. Find an external fuel tank to drain into. Then, remove the fuel line from the engine intake manifold
and point into the external tank. Turn the ignition switch to the “run” position but do not crank starter. You will hear the fuel pump pushing
fuel into the external tank. Once the fuel is done pumping, shut off key switch. Reinstall fuel line and remove external fuel tank.
