Packet Filter Logs
By clicking the open Packetfilter-violation-LiveLog button, a new window is opened in which the rule
violations are listed in the order of their occurrence (see sample below).
Note: Packets dropped by the Drop setting in Packet Filter|Rules do not appear in the
Packetfilter-violation-LiveLog!
To stop the LiveLog, click stop LiveLog at the bottom of the window. This will "freeze" the log with the
latest violation information. To re-start the violation log again, click start LiveLog.
The RouteFinder logging function is extremely important to your organization’s security. The logs provide
you with the best chance of detecting attacks against your site, as well as for finding out what the results
are of a successful attack. You will probably want to keep log information in a location separate from the
RouteFinder, to keep an intruder from destroying the log data upon compromising the RouteFinder.
PacketFilterLivelog output is generated by programs outside of the RouteFinder (e.g., FreeS/WAN); for
a detailed description, refer to the appropriate program's user manual.
