SMTP
In the Proxies|SMTP menu you configure the SMTP proxy, including the virus scanner.
The SMTP proxy acts as an email relay. It accepts e-mail for your internet domains and passes them on
to your internal e-mail distribution system. This could be a Microsoft Exchange Server,
for example. E-Mails are transparently scanned for known viruses and other harmful content.
The SMTP proxy also acts as a gateway for outgoing mail, thus taking over the job of e-mail distribution
from your internal e-mail system.
In the Proxies directory, select the SMTP menu, click Enable, and configure the settings.
Note: For the proxy service SMTP, a valid name server (DNS) must be enabled. The RouteFinder sends
notifications to the administrator even if the SMTP proxy is disabled.
Note: every change in Proxies becomes effective instantly without further notice.
Configure SMTP Proxy
1. Open the SMTP menu in the Proxies directory.
2. Clicking the Enable button next to Status to switch on (enable) the SMTP proxy.
3. Configure the SMTP proxy, using the entry and select menus:
Virus protection: by clicking the Enable button, you switch on the virus scanner.
E-mails and attachments (if present, such as pictures, Word files, etc.) are checked for viruses and, if no
viruses are identified, are then sent on. The scanner is also able to unpack all major archive formats (ZIP,
RAR, ARJ, tar.gz). The virus scanner inserts a notification line into the mail header after the scanning
process.
Both incoming and outgoing e-mails are scanned, if they are sent via the SMTP proxy. For more
information about this, see the Accept incoming domains and Mail relay for functions.
Accepted incoming domains
: Enter all the domains for which the SMTP proxy should accept e-mails.
For e-mails to be able to reach the system, you must include the RouteFinder’s IP address in the DNS
server for your respective domains as a
Mail Exchanger (MX)
. E-mails to domains not listed will be blocked.
