PPTP Roadwarrior VPN
From VPN|PPTP Roadwarrior VPN you can configure PPTP Remote Access, select PPTP IP-pool, and
open a PPTP debug log. Point-To-Point Protocol (PPTP) lets you grant single specified hosts access to
your network via an encrypted tunnel. PPTP is considerably easier to set up as IPSEC and, if Microsoft
Windows is being used, does not require additional software on the client computer. As of Windows 95,
PPTP is contained in all Microsoft Windows versions. However, to be able to use PPTP with your
RouteFinder, Windows 95 and 98 clients require a PPTP update from Microsoft at:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q191/5/40.ASP
.
If you are using Windows 95, you also require the Microsoft RAS update.
When enabling PPTP for the first time, a random network for use as a Pool will be generated. Clients will
be given addresses from this network range. You can define your own pool in Definitions|Networks and
set it to be used as the PPTP pool here. Alternatively, you can assign a special IP to each user when you
define their account (see Definitions|Users). This IP does NOT need to be from the pool. The client does
not need to specifically request this IP address to be used; it will be assigned to them automatically.
With PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) enabled, you can connect single hosts to your network via
an encrypted tunnel. These will typically be Microsoft Windows clients. To create users for PPTP access,
see Definitions|Users. The clients must support MSCHAPv2 authentication.
Older Windows 95 and Windows 98 clients need an update for the Remote Access Service to support
MSCHAPv2 authentication.
PPTP Remote Access: here you can you switch on/off the PPTP Roadwarrior VPN connection and the
debugging function by clicking the corresponding Enable or Disable button. The default for each setting is
disabled (red LED lit).
Status: current PPTP remote access status.
Debug: with PPTP service enabled, you can also enable the Debug mode, giving you more extensive
logging in the Debug Log, which can be opened at the bottom of the screen.
