STRIPPING DOWN THE
CYLINDER AND THE
PISTON
- Drain the coolant out of the engine.
- Strip down the cylinder head.
- Remove the cooling circuit hose
between the cylinder and the water
pump.
- Withdraw the cylinder, pulling gently
upwards.
- Remove the cylinder base gasket.

the crankcase to prevent any
objects from falling accidentally into
the crankcase.

- If the gudgeon pin needs to be pus-

bent out of shape.
- Proceed to clean the components
and to eliminate the remains of the
cylinder gaskets and coke deposits
gently (avoid scratching the outside
surface of the piston).
- Perform a visual check of the condi-
tion of the connecting rod big-end.
- If there are signs of damage on the
needle bearing contact surface,
replace the connecting rod.
- Perform a visual check of the condi-
tion of the connecting rod big end
bearing; if signs of damage are
found to the needles or if there are
cracks in the cage, it should be
replaced.
- Withdraw the piston rings by ope-
