With the introduction of the L 70 DVD/CD Surround Sound Receiver,

NAD now offers the level of performance associated with its highly

acclaimed full-size separates in an elegant, compact design.  Designed to

complement today's advanced video displays, its gleaming Titanium fin-

ish and elegant proportions make a sophisticated design statement.  And

unlike most other "all-in-one" systems, the NAD performs like an award

winning NAD separate component.  We have not made any performance

compromises in our quest for convenience and style.

The Command Center for an Advanced Surround
Sound System

By combining the DVD/CD player and digital surround sound receiver in

one elegant package, one needs only to add the TV monitor and sur-

round sound speaker package to the NAD L 70 to have theater quality

sound in any room of the home.  The L 70 is ideal for apartment and

condominium dwellers, and makes for an outstanding bedroom or

recreation room system.  The supplied HTR-L70 Remote can operate

your TV, VCR, satellite or cable tuner, and almost any other IR remote

controlled device.  The logical layout and illuminated keys make operat-

ing your AV system straightforward and enjoyable, and the HTR-L70, with

it's ability to learn the remote commands of up to eight different devices,

eliminates the clutter of multiple remote handsets.  Unlike the "Home

Theater in a Box" systems that include speakers (usually of questionable

quality), the NAD L 70 allows complete freedom to choose speakers that

fit your decor and suite your taste in sound.

Performance

The NAD engineers concentrated only on the truly important parts of a

surround sound system. As the new surround sound formats allow for

the same wide bandwidth and large dynamic range for the rear channels

as for the front channels, all five channels are capable of putting out an

equal and substantial amount of power. As usual with NAD, the L 70

uses discrete output stages only, including the surround channels. The

benefits of this approach have been proven over the years in many

acclaimed NAD amplifiers and receivers.  Most products in this category

are using digital IC amplifier modules, which allow for a very slim-line

design, but cannot meet even the most basic hi-fi specs for noise and

distortion.  What's more, these amplifiers can only put out a very modest

amount of power, far too little for a satisfying cinematic or musical per-

formance.  And to make matters even worse, these digital IC amplifiers

used by our competitors cannot accurately drive real world speakers due

to their poor tolerance of low impedance loads and almost total lack of

dynamic power.

As one would expect from NAD, only high quality components have been

used, such as high resolution ADCs (Analogue-to-Digital Converter) and

DACs (Digital-to-Analogue Converter) from renowned manufacturer

Cirrus Logic, to obtain the best possible performance.

Flexibility

Even though the L 70 DVD/CD Surround Sound Receiver may be far more

compact than a separate DVD Player and Receiver of comparable perfor-

mance, it still is very flexible. Three additional video sources (one front panel

accessible - perfect for cameras and game consoles) and a 6 channel audio

source can be connected (with the built-in tuner and DVD/CD player that

potentially gives you access to six sources) of which two also offer S-Video

inputs. Besides the Composite Monitor output, the L 70 also has an S-Video

and Component/SCART RGB output as well. Two digital inputs (one optical,

one coaxial) are provided, and, for easy transferring to a CD recorder or other

digital recording device, the L 70 also sports an optical digital output. Rather

than using spring clips for loudspeaker cable connection, as usually found on

compact systems, the L 70 offers high quality loudspeaker binding posts,

more associated with top-of-the-range full-size AV receivers. A preamp-level

output for connection to a powered subwoofer is provided as well.
