NORMAL ENGINE OPERATION
Check engine coolant temperature and oil pressure.
Temperatures and pressures will vary between engines
and with changing operating conditions, temperatures,
and lIf coolant temperature rises above the maximum
coolant temperature, reduce load on engine. Unless
temperature drops quickly, stop engine and determine
cause before resuming operation.
Operate the engine under a lighter load and at slower
than normal speed for first 15 minutes after start-up.
DO NOT run engine at slow idle unless necessary for
maneuvering out of dock and harbor.
Stop engine as soon as possible if there are any signs of
part failure. Symptoms that may be early signs of engine
problems are :
• Sudden drop in oil pressure
• Abnormal coolant temperatures
• High marine gear oil temperature
• Unusual noise or vibration
• Sudden loss of power
• Excessive black exhaust
• Excessive fuel consumption
• Excessive oil consumption
• Fluid leaks
BREAK IN
Operate the engine with care for the first 50 hours of
operation.
Do not race the engine while it is cold. Do not operate it
at full load except for short periods. Never run the engine
at constant engine speed for long periods during the
break in period.
Check the oil and coolant level frequently during the
running-in period. The oil consumption can be more
important during the running in period.
See Maintenance section.
POWER TAKE OFF
Some engines can be fit with a Power Take Off system.
This system allows to power accessories like bilge
pump, watermaker, etc.
NOTE !
Any mechanical power taken from the engine from a PTO
reduces the power delivered to the propeller. The use
of a PTO should always be studied and approved by
the R&D department of Nanni Industries S.A.S France.
