5. SAUNA VENTILATION
- Sauna ventilation must be as efficient as possible to achieve sufficient oxygen content and
freshness. The air in the sauna room should change 3-6 times an hour. Sauna ventilation
should be implemented in accordance with the HVAC designer’s designs.
- Fresh air is supplied through a duct with a diameter of approx. 100mm. The exhaust air should
be removed through a duct of larger diameter as compared to the fresh air duct.
- In case of mechanical ventilation, it is recommended to install the supply air valve in the ceiling
close to the stove. Consider the temperature sensor distance from the supply air valve!
- The distance between the temperature sensor and the fresh air duct must be at least
1,000mm; with a directional nozzle, 500mm
.
- In case of natural ventilation, the supply air valve should be installed next to the stove or below
it, to the wall or floor.
- In fresh air supply, mixing of the air with the sauna air and the steam is important.
- The exhaust air is routed as far as possible from the supply air and close to the floor.
- The exhaust air valve may be located under the benches.
- The exhaust air can be routed from the sauna room through the wash room, for example, under
the door. An approx. 100-150mm gap is required before the door and the floor.
- A dedicated sauna drying valve, if any, is to be installed in the ceiling of the sauna.
(The valve is closed for the duration of heating and sauna activities.)
