Congratulations

on your purchase of a precision-crafted

 NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC™

telescope. With proper

care and handling of your telescope, you will enjoy the pleasure of looking at nature’s wondrous sights through
the eye of this instrument for many years.

The NG70FS has been designed to provide views of the Moon’s craters, Jupiter’s major moons, and Saturn’s
rings, in addition to dozens of galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae.

As a terrestrial (land) telescope, the NG70FS delivers great views of mountains, valleys, and many other
features of the world around us. You can also use the NG70FS to study animals and landscapes at a distance.
To obtain the best performance from your telescope, please read this manual carefully and completely.

A

SSEMBLY

1) Carefully remove all parts from their cardboard boxes and lay them on a table or on the floor in order to

take an inventory of all the pieces. Keep boxes for storage, or in case you ever need to ship your telescope.

2) Spread the three legs of the tabletop tripod apart and gently press down on the centre of the tripod
support struts until they lock into place.

3) Locate the threaded brass insert at the back of the tripod attachment plate. Insert the tilt arm into the

threaded brass insert and turn it clockwise until slight resistance is felt. Tilt the tripod mount until its top is
level and continue to tighten the pan and tilt arm to hold the mount in this level position (See Fig. 1).

4) Place the telescope attachment plate over the tripod attachment plate. The attachment bolt and knob can

be turned clockwise so that it fit into the threaded hole in the base of the telescope attachment plate.

5) The telescope is now securely attached to the tripod.

6) To turn the telescope tube from side to side, loosen the horizontal motion lock knob and turn the
telescope tube to the desired direction. Re-tighten the knob.

7) Each tripod leg has three tripod leg height adjustment locks. Each of these locks has a plastic snap

fastener that can be flipped outward to the open and unlocked position. In this position the tripod leg sections
can be extended so that the desired height is reached. Then push the fasteners closed to lock the tripod leg.

8) To make further height adjustments you can raise or lower the centre column of the tripod. Hold the
telescope securely with one hand so that the centre column will not drop suddenly. Loosen the centre
