Appendix J
Troubleshooting
This appendix addresses system-related problems you may encounter when using the NI-VXI
bus interface software on the VXIpc-486 platform. This material covers the following issues:
•
Running the
VXIINIT
initialization program results in an error message or causes the
system to hang.
•
Running the
RESMAN
Resource Manager program results in incorrect data or causes the
system to hang.
•
The VXIpc-486 and/or its installed components (such as GPIB, COM Port) fail to work once
ISA bus plug-in cards are installed.
•
The network card installed does not operate properly.
•
The hard disk drive reports failures or other errors.
If you encounter any of these problems, your system may have a conflict with one of the
VXIpc-486 configuration settings. For proper operation, the VXIpc-486 requires the allocation
of the following system resources:
•
One interrupt level that cannot be shared with another device
•
Two blocks of memory space in the upper memory region of the PC AT address space
In addition, the VXIpc-486 components require port I/O register space, interrupts, and DMA
channels. These resources are statically allocated. For more details, refer to Appendix G,
VXIpc-486 Hardware Configuration
.
If you are unable to resolve your problem, and you have checked Appendix I,
