For PCMCIA-FBUS cards, removing third-party card manager
software also has been known to correct such problems.
•
There is a thermal issue seen with the PCMCIA card in some laptops
with insufficient ventilation. Some laptops even place the PCMCIA
slots over the hard disk or power supply. National Instruments
PCMCIA-FUBS cards are within the PCMCIA specification for
current draw. However, if the laptop builds up heat, this may become
a problem.
In the Interface Configuration Utility, I see more boards than what
physically exist in the machine.

Caution
Do
not
attempt to make unguided changes in the Windows registry. Doing so can
cause many problems with your system.
Add New Hardware Problems
In Add New Hardware on Windows 2000/NT, there is no category for
Fieldbus.
The category
Fieldbus Adapters
will not appear under the type of
hardware listing in
Add New Hardware
unless you restart the computer
twice after installing the software. After you install your first card, it will
always show up. If the
Fieldbus Adapters
category does not appear, you
still can follow the instructions in the
Setting the Base Address and IRQ
section of Chapter 2,
Installation and Configuration
.
Resolving Resource Conflicts
Assign Each Card a Unique Base Address
In Windows NT, the base address for PCMCIA adapters is assigned based
on the board ID, which is identical for all PCMCIA cards from a given
manufacturer. To fix this problem, either use only one PCMCIA controller,
or use Windows 2000.
