NI PS-16 Power Supply User Manual

Operating the NI PS-16

This section provides general information on the operation of the NI PS-16 
power supply.

Serial Operation

The NI PS-16 can operate in series to increase the output voltage. 
Figure 2-3 shows the NI PS-16 in a serial configuration.

Before operating the NI PS-16 in a serial configuration, consider the 
following:

It is possible to connect as many units in series as needed, providing 
the sum of the output voltage does not exceed 150 V

Voltages with a potential above 60 V

  are not SELV-compliant any 

more and can be dangerous. Such voltages must be installed with a 
protection against touching.

Use power supplies of the same type for serial operation.

Earthing of the output is required when the sum of the output voltage 
is above 60 V

Keep an installation clearance of 15mm (left/right) between two power 
supplies and avoid installing the power supplies on top of each other.

Caution

Avoid return voltage (for example, from a decelerating motor or battery) which is 

applied to the output terminals.
