CYCLE IRREGULARITIES:
Edger Won’t Cycle:
Mercury Switch Malfunction.
1.
Check the wires of the main mercury switch, mounted on the Plexiglas
shield, for breaks.
2.
If the wires appear to be in good condition, verify the switch operation
by unplugging the switch's amp-style connector and placing a jumper
wire in it's wiring harness receptacle. If the machine cycles normally,
replacement of the mercury switch is indicated.
NOTE:
Bypassing the mercury switch is performed solely for diagnostic
purposes and is
NOT
intended for operation.
SERIOUS INJURY
could
result from operating the Edger in this manner.
Neither Motors Run - [Carriages move into cutting position but neither
motors run]
Mercury Relay Not Functioning.
Use a Voltmeter to verify operating
voltages.
AC output voltage-
1.
Connect one meter lead to the top of the Mercury Relay.
2.
Connect the other lead to any large White neutral wire in the machine.
3.
Ensure the meter is set to the AC voltage scale. Close the case top and
cycle the edger.
If the relay is functioning 115 volts AC (230 VAC where applicable) should be read
on the meter. If so, the White/Violet wires should be traced to locate any breaks. If no
voltage is present at the relay output, the input voltage should be verified.
