Taking care of ZephIR
ZephIR systems have been designed to operate in remote
environments.
The system has been manufactured from a GRP sandwich
material, which provides a number of benefits;
•
Lightweight
•
Robust
•
Thermally insulating
1.
Transport of the system.
Care should be taken during transport of the ZephIR
systems. The system is provided with three transit cases
that must be used during the transportation of the system
between measurement locations. Failure to do so could
cause internal or external damage to the system and
invalidate the warranty.
Each of the pods has a series of shock sensors applied to
them, these should be checked every time the unit has
been shipped or deployed to ensure that none of them
have been triggered.
2.
System Window
The laser scanning system employed by ZephIR uses a high
quality optical glass window in the top cover and should be
kept clean and scratch free at all times.
When the window is dirty it will trigger a wash/wipe
sequence, which is explained later in this manual, however
should the window become extremely dirty (and the wash/
wipe can not clear it), it will impact on system performance
and should be manually cleaned.
Warning : The window can be cleaned with water and a
cloth, no abrasive cleaning solution or abrasive cloths
should be used.
If the front window is damaged in anyway, support from
your Service Engineer (whose contact details are listed at
the back of the manual) should be sought. A replacement
window may be required in extreme circumstances.
3.
Wiper replacement
Each ZephIR system includes a wash/wipe system to
ensure cleanliness of the front window. This wiper blade
may require periodic replacement see service schedule
later in the manual.
4.
Louvres and Fans
The fans situated on the outside of the ZephIR system are
utilised in high temperatures to support cooling of the
system. A periodic check of the fan operation should be
carried out. There is a test procedure in the system software
section of the manual which deals with testing the fans on
the unit.
5.
Extreme Temperatures
ZephIR includes fans and heaters to support continued
operation during both hot and cold extremes of temperature.
The power usage of the system will increase during
operation of both the fans and the heaters. The use of a
secondary heat or wind shield around the ZephIR system
will support system performance in these conditions.
Note: Do not cover the window with secondary insulation
or impede the flow of air around the louvres in warm
conditions.
6.
GRP Damage
As indicated previously, the GRP construction of the
ZephIR system provides benefits with respect to lightness,
robustness and thermal insulation.
If damaged, the skin of the GRP will allow moisture to
penetrate the system.
In the event of the ZephIR GRP becoming damaged, a
repair should be undertaken immediately. This should be
done by contacting your Service Engineer.
