Deployment and Operational Safety Hazards
The following recommendations should be implemented
as additional measures for the safe operation of the ZephIR
system:
•
Before system deployment a site survey should
be carried out with consideration given to all of the
recommendations identified within this document.
•
Consideration should be given to any health and
safety issues associated with a specific site or operational
scenario, with particular attention to the following;
Position of system - hard standing / soft ground
•
Possible adverse weather conditions during
•
installation and commissioning
Location of the primary power supply – RCD
•
protection and sign-posting
Emissions
The ZephIR system is a Class 1 (eye-safe) laser product
conforming to IEC/EN 60825-1. It operates by scanning a
continuous laser beam and measuring the Doppler shift
of laser light scattered from airborne particles - typically
dust, pollen and water droplets which are carried along
by the wind. As required by IEC/EN 60825-1, the system
is eye-safe by design with interlocks to prevent hazardous
emissions.
Caution: unauthorised interference with the normal
operation of the system by tampering with internal system
components may result in hazardous radiation exposure.
CE Marking
The ZephIR system is declared compliant with the
essential requirements and provisions to provide it with CE
marking:
•
European Safety Directive for electrical
equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use
(EN601010-1:2001)
•
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EN61326:1997)
•
Laser Product Classification to IEC/EN 60825-1
