Assemble the mainshaft gears
and hubs onto the mainshaft.
Use new parts as needed.
Install all internal parts in the
transfer case housing. When
referring to
Figure 8-34
, notice
that the shift forks are usually
installed at the same time as
the gears they operate. Make
sure the shafts are properly
seated in the bottom of the
housing to avoid binding.
Install the drive chain, making
sure the sprockets and shafts
are properly aligned with the
chain as
Figure 8-35
illustrates.
After installing the chain, make
sure all thrust washers are
installed as shown in
Figure 8-
36
. Next, install the snap rings
that hold the chain and shafts in
place.
