Q: Not begin to playback but to display REGION ERROR after i nserting disc into
disc compartment. Why ?
A: Because the DVD player a nd d isc has respectiv e region code. If the region codes
of th em a re not match with each other, the DVD player c an not play the disc.
Appe ndix: The region code of DVD:
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) divided the world into 6
regions, and named every region a code, namely region cod e. The region cod es
and the coun tries or areas represe nted by the region codes as follows:
Region 1: Am erica, Canada, East-Pac ific Inlands;
Region 2: Japan, West Eu rope, North Euro pe, Egypt, South Africa, Middle East;
Region 3:
Taiwan, Hong Kon g, South Korea,
Thailand, indonesia, etc.;
Region 4: Au stralia, New Zealand, Central South America, South Pacific Inlands;
Region 5: Russia, Mongolia, Indian Peninsula, Middle Asia, East Europe, North
Korea, North Africa, North-west Asia etc.;
Region 6: China mainland.
Basically, when a DVD movie disc for the versio n of region 6 was dec ided not to
issue, we need to purchas e an other DVD player tha t can pla y the DVD movie disc
for the ve rsion of non-region 6. In order to view this disc , viewer who does not have
the non-regio n 6 DVD player facilities will have to spend extra sum of mo ney to buy
it. The proble ms caus ed from the area code inc onsi stency b etwe en the disc and the
DVD player has pushed fo r the produc tion of Unlock-Version DVD player faci lities,
and som e DVD disc sets a llow user to modify the area codes for a limited number of
time s. But note that o nly the d iscs prod uced by the 8 big gest filmmaking companies
