Note:
The groundstrap on the printhead remains on the printhead. If you are replacing the
printhead, use the groundstrap from the old printhead.
2.
Remove the ribbon idler gear (the gear with a flat surface) on the right side of the
carriage assembly.
3.
Remove the ribbon drive gear (the gear with a stem) on the left side of the carriage
assembly.
4.
Remove the step idler gear by unsnapping the flange on the back of the step idler gear
and, from the front of the carriage assembly, pulling the gear off the assembly.
5.
Remove the anti-rotation bearing.
6.
Remove the felt sleeves from the carriage.
Note:
If necessary, the MICR foam pad can be removed from the bottom of the carriage
assembly by peeling it off.
Reassembling the Carriage Assembly
Orientation for this procedure is with the printhead cavity of the carriage to the front. For
an illustration to aid in reassembling the carriage assembly refer to the illustration on the
previous page.
1.
If the MICR foam pad was removed, place a new foam pad on the bottom of the
carriage assembly.
2.
Using silicone fluid, re-lubricate the gear cutouts that hold the ribbon drive, ribbon
idler and step idler gears (oil around the inside of hole and outside of hole on the step
idler gear).
3.
Position the step idler gear on the carriage assembly and, from the back of the
assembly, snap the step idler gear flange, through the step idler gear.
4.
Replace the ribbon drive gear (the gear with a stem) on the left gear cutout of the
carriage assembly.
5.
Replace the ribbon idler gear (the gear with a flat surface) on the right gear cutout of
the carriage assembly.
6.
Replace the anti-rotation bearing on the carriage assembly. Do not fully snap the
bearing into position until you place the carriage on the print mechanism.
7.
Replace the felt sleeves.
8.
Replace the printhead cable.
a.
With the metal side of the cable to the front, thread the cable through the middle
slot on the back of the carriage assembly.
b.
With your thumb push the cable through the opening on the front of the carriage
assembly.
c.
Connect the cable to the printhead.
9.
If replacing the printhead, remove the ground strap from the old printhead and place
on the new printhead. Make sure the printhead ground strap is attached and seated
properly so that the holes line up.
10.
Replace the two small screws in the printhead.
