Configuring Events

Configuring Events
Events are occurrences on a LAN for which you have configured parameters and which, when
triggered, notify you of that condition through a set of predefined actions or alerts. These
conditions can include a threshold for graphable parameters, or simply a change of state for
event-only parameters.
How You Are Notified
When the parameters exceed the event conditions you set, the event is sent to LANDesk’s Alert
Management System (AMS
2
), which executes any action you have configured. Available actions
include paging, Internet e-mail, program execution, broadcast messages, and displaying a
message box. Events are also logged to the Diagnostic Partition and the SMB Event Log or the
UNIX System log. Refer to the applicable WorldMark 4300 User Guide or Server Software
Guide for additional information about the Diagnostic Partition.
Only one alert is generated when a parameter crosses a threshold. Until the parameter crosses the
threshold again, no additional alerts are generated.
Configuring Alerts
To configure an alert, proceed as follows:
1. Select the server, Server Management Board Proxy, and Events categories, and on the middle
pane, double-click the event.
The Alert dialog box, similar to Figure 2-20, is displayed.

2. Select ACTIVATE ALERT, if not already selected.
3. Enter the text you want to appear on the Windows NT Event Log in the Description field.
4. Click SELECT.
The Manage Alerts dialog box, shown in Figure 2-21, is displayed.
