Replacing the Internal Modem
On occasion, it may be necessary to replace the internal modem. Before installing a new modem,
contact your NCR representative to ensure the modem has been certified to operate correctly
with the SMB.
Tools Needed
The following tools are needed to remove the internal modem:
•
Anti-static wristband
•
Phillips-head screwdriver
•
Slotted screwdriver
Removing the Modem
To remove the internal modem, proceed as follows:
1. Remove the SMB following the procedures earlier in this chapter.
2. Disconnect the following cables:
–
Ribbon cable connecting the modem to the SMB
–
Phone cable
–
DC power cable
3. Using the Phillips-head screwdriver, unscrew the two screws holding the modem on the
SMB.
4. Remove the modem.
Installing the Modem
To install a new internal modem, proceed as follows:
1. Slip the back of the modem into the SMB standoff.
2. Place the modem on the SMB so that the two screw holes are aligned.
3. Insert and tighten the two screws.
4. Connect the following cables:
–
Ribbon cable connecting the modem to the SMB
–
Phone cable
–
DC power cable
