User Troubleshooting Procedure
•
On NT, start the Control Panel and select the Services Icon. Verify that the “SMB Agent
Service” and “Win32SL” Services show a status of “Started”. If either Service does not
report the desired status, start the Service. If the “SMB Agent Service” is already in the
“Started” state, stop the service and restart it. Verify that the “Intel Server Monitor” service
is in the “Started” state, or start it manually. From the LANDesk console, close and re-open
the associated Server Icon, and then continue as normal.
•
On MP-RAS, login as root and perform the command
/sbin/dmicmd version
to verify
that the DMI Service Layer daemon, /etc/smi/bin/smisl_d, is running. If the DMI Service
Layer does not appear to be accessible, restart the daemon by running
sh
/etc/init.d/dmisl stop
to clean up the process and then
sh /etc/init.d/dmisl
start
to restart the process. Verify the daemon has started and is running correctly as
described above. If the DMI Service Layer daemon cannot be restarted successfully, the
smidmi package may need to be updated.
Once the DMI Service Layer daemon appears to be functioning, issue the command
ps -ef
| grep smbci
to verify that the SMB instrumentation daemon is running. If it is running,
issue the command
sh /etc/init.d/smbci stop
to stop the daemon. It should be
restarted automatically.
If the smbci process does not appear to be running, verify that there is an entry for it in the
files /etc/inittab and /etc/cf.d/init.base. If an smb entry appears, issue the command
telinit
q
to have the daemon started by the init process. If there is no entry in /etc/inittab or
/etc/cf.d/init.base, or if the
telinit q
command fails to start the smbci process, the smbci
package may need to be updated.
