Hot-pluggable fan
Note
To avoid server parts from being damaged, the fan blank cover at x1 CPU
configuration must be installed in the Fan 1 and 2 positions.
Note
To avoid the server from being damaged, do not operate the server for extended
lengths of time without the appropriate number of fans installed. The server may
start, but it is not recommended to let it operate without the necessary fans
installed.
The following displays the structure for installing cooling fans.

For CPU x1 configuration (except for 24 x 2.5-inch configuration and 12 x 3.5-inch configuration), 4 fans and 2
blanks are required for redundancy. If the cooling fan fails or lacks, the redundancy will fail.
For CPU x2 configuration or CPU x1 24 x 2.5-inch configuration or 12 x 3.5-inch configuration, 6 fans are required
for redundancy. If the cooling fan fails or lacks, the redundancy will fail.
High-performance fans may be necessary in 8 x 2.5-inch configuration and 8 x 3.5-inch configuration for the
following devices:
Installing optional GPU riser
This device monitors the temperature inside the server, controls the cooling fan, and cools down the server
to the proper temperature.
The server will undergo a normal shutdown process under the following temperature conditions :
If the temperature in caution level is detected, iLO 5 performs a normal shutdown at POST execution and
OS. If the server hardware detects temperature in the critical level before a normal shutdown, the server
performs an immediate shutdown.
With “Thermal Shutdown” feature set to “Disabled” in “BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU),” iLO5 does
not execute the usual shut down even if it detects a temperature over an alarming level.
Even with this feature set to “Disabled,” the hardware of Server shuts down immediately if it detects a
cautious level of temperature.
Note
If the shutdown function due to high temperature is disabled in system utility,
equipment parts may become damaged by high temperatures.
Tips
In case NEC ESMPRO ServerAgentService is installed, since a shut down due to
high temperature is executed by NEC ESMPRO ServerAgentService, you need to
set “Thermal Shutdown” to “Disabled.”
