Disassembly and Reassembly
Removing/Installing Processor Cartridges on the System Board
Use the following procedure to remove or install a processor cartridge on the
system board (slots 1 - 4).
Note:
All systems ship with at least a processor
cartridge installed in the top slot of a system board and
termination boards in the remaining slots. Some systems
may have more processors, depending on configuration. All
processors must be matched in speed and cache size. The
processors must be installed in ascending order of the board
slot numbers (1 - 4).
1.
Observe the safety and ESD precautions listed at the beginning of this
chapter.
2.
Power off the system. Ensure the power cords are unplugged from the AC
wall outlet.
3.
Remove the processor cover. See
Removing the Processor Cover
earlier in
this chapter. Set the processor cover aside for reinstallation later.
4.
Release the two push pins securing the air deflector to the chassis and
remove it (see Figure 4-9). Set the air deflector aside for reinstallation later.
Figure 4-9. Removing the Air Deflector
5.
Loosen the two thumbscrews securing the processor cage door to the chassis
and open the door (see Figure 4-10).
6.
Slide the processor cage door slightly up towards the top of the chassis until
its hooks disengage from their slots in the chassis and remove the processor
cage door from its chassis tab slots. Set the processor cage door aside for
reinstallation later.
