Disassembly and Reassembly
Replace the battery as follows.
Note:
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage add-in
boards and other components; place them on an antistatic
surface. Wear an antistatic wrist strap attached to chassis
ground.
1.
Observe the safety and ESD precautions listed at the beginning of this
chapter.
2.
Power off the system. Ensure the power cords are unplugged from the AC
wall outlet.
3.
Remove the processor cover. See
Removing the Processor Cover
earlier in
this chapter.
4.
The battery is located on the system board just to the bottom left of the
processor cage.
5.
If the battery has a protective plastic cover, remove the cover by lifting it
away from the battery (A). Use your fingernail or a small pointed tool to
gently push up the bottom edge of the battery (B). See Figure 4-20 for
socket location.
6.
Remove the battery from its socket (C).
7.
Position the new battery over the battery socket with the plus (+) sign on the
battery facing up.
8.
Carefully insert the top of the battery into its socket and gently push until it
is firmly seated in the socket.
9.
Reinstall the processor cover removed in step 3 above. See
Installing the
Processor Cover
earlier in this chapter.
10.
Plug in the power cords and power up the system.
11.
Run the BIOS Setup to restore configuration settings to the real-time-clock.
