Upgrading Your System 4-31
Optional Five to Eight CPU Upgrade Kit
Use the following procedure to install the optional five to eight CPU upgrade
kit.
To install more than four processors in your server the following hardware items
must be added:
!
Mezzanine board
!
Two Cache coherency filters
!
Two Processor holddown brackets.
Processors/Terminators 1 – 4 are installed on mezzanine board 1 and
processors/terminators 5 – 8 are installed on mezzanine board 2, see “Boardset
Description” in chapter 1.
1.
Observe the safety and ESD precautions listed at the beginning of this
chapter.
2.
Unlock and remove the front bezel. See “Removing and Installing the Front
Bezel” earlier in this chapter.
3.
Remove all the processors/terminators from mezzanine board 1. See
“Processors: Removing and Installing” and “Front Side Bus (FSB)
Termination Board Assembly” earlier in this chapter.
4.
Remove the memory module cover. See “Removing the Memory Module
Cover” earlier in this chapter.
5.
Remove the memory module board by simultaneously rotating the
eject/insert levers on the front of the board outward about 90
°
to disengage
the pin-and-socket connector of the board from the midplane connector and
then pulling the board straight out of its slot guides in the chassis (see Figure
4-19). Being careful not to touch the components on the memory module,
place the module DIMM-side up on a nonconductive, static-free surface, or
store it in an antistatic protective wrapper.
!
CAUTION
Support the entire length of the memory module as you slide
it out of the chassis. The module is more than 12 inches
long and could be damaged if you allow it to bend by
supporting only one end.
