NOTES ON CONNECTION WITH FIBRE CHANNEL DISK
ARRAY
When connecting with Fibre Channel disk array unit
(ST12000 or NEC iStorage)
The device manager may display the name of logical drives on Fibre Channel Disk Array
in two ways. However, there will be no difference in operation in both the cases.
ST12000
"Stratus Dual Initiated Mylex DACARMRB xxxx SCSI Disk Device"
(xxxx: arbitrary alphanumeric)
"Mylex RAID Disk Device"
NEC iStorage
"Stratus Dual Initiated NEC iStorage xxxx SCSI Disk Device"
(xxxx: numeric such as 1000 or 2000 for device identification)
"Disk Drive"
Disk access at occurrence of primary FC fault
If a fault occurs in any of the FC boards and cables on the primary PCI module at system
boot, it is not possible to access the FC-connected disk before the secondary PCI module
is booted. It takes a rather long time to boot the secondary PCI module. This may cause
unsuccessful start up of applications and/or services installed in the FC-connected disk. If
such cases, start the applications and/or services again after the secondary PCI module is
booted.
No recognition of added disk
If the added disk does not appear on the VERITAS Volume Manager console, run
“Action/Rescan.” If the disk status is other than online after the execution of
“Action/Rescan,”, take the proper measures depending on the status by referring to
"Troubleshooting" and "Using Disk and Volume Status Information" in the VERITAS
Volume Manager manual.
Output of alert message during rescanning
If the disk configuration is changed and the disks are rescanned, an alert message "pnp
provider reported physical disk \Device\Harddiskx was removed or temporarily
unavailable." may appear. The VERITAS Volume Manager always retains the
configuration of the running disk. If the disk configuration at the rescanning is different
from the saved disk configuration, the above message may appear. In such cases, perform
the rescanning again. If the disk status is other than online after the execution of the
rescanning, take the proper measures depending on the status by referring to
"Troubleshooting" and "Using and Volume Status Information" in the VERITAS Volume
Manager manual.
