Chapter 2 Preparations
Memory Sparing feature can be used under the following conditions:
•
Install two DIMMs in DIMM socket to configure a spare set.
•
Use a pair of DIMMs of the same model number for memory sparing set.
•

", check if your server supports Memory Sparing
feature.
Select
Advanced
→
Memory Configuration
→
Memory Information
, and check if
Supported
is displayed
in
Sparing
.

", run SETUP, change parameters as shown below,
save the settings, and exit from SETUP.

After restart, run SETUP again, and check if "

" is displayed for the following parameter.

The following Memory Sparing cannot be configured.

DIMMs of different model number are used for spare set.

Sparing with DIMMs in different memory channel
Notes on Configuring Memory Sparing
In Memory Sparing configuration, [Memory RAS Mode] is changed from "Sparing" to "Independent" in the
following cases:
•
When you additionally install DIMMs that unable to configure Memory Sparing
•
When you remove DIMMs that takes down Memory Sparing
"Spared" is not displayed in "CPUx_DIMMx Status xxxx MB (Spared)" in Memory Information of BIOS SETUP
menu.
