Disassembly and Reassembly
System Cover
The following sections describe how to remove and replace the system cover. Remove the
system cover to access the interior of the system (see “Removing the Cover,” next).
Removing the Cover
Remove the cover as follows.
Before removing the cover, turn off system power and unplug the
system power cable. Power is removed only when the power cable is unplugged.
1.
Turn off the system and any peripherals, and unplug the system power cord.
2.
Disconnect any external options (such as a keyboard and monitor) from the front or rear of
the system.
Electrostatic discharge can damage computer components. Discharge
static electricity by touching a metal object before removing the cover.
3.
If the system is in the minitower configuration, place it on its right side (the side with four
rubber feet).
4.
If there is a padlock in the locking tab on the rear of the chassis, remove it.
5.
Remove the two thumbscrews holding the cover to the rear of the chassis.

Grasp the indent on the cover and slide the cover towards the rear of the chassis about an
inch (see the following figure, “Removing the Cover”).
7.
Lift the cover off the system and set aside.
