Remove the screws and rails from each side of the device (see the figure “Locating the
Device Rails and Screws” later in this section). Save the rails.
Note
Always keep unused NEC rails as they are needed for installation on devices without
rails or that have wrong rails. You should also keep an unused bay cover and attached EMI
shield as they are needed to cover an empty bay.

If installing a new device in the bay, see “Installing a 5 1/4-Inch Accessible Device” later in
this section.

If the bay is to remain empty, install the two rails, bay cover, and EMI shield as follows.
Note
The rails, bay cover, and EMI shield must be installed in an empty bay to maintain EMF
protection, keep dust and dirt out, and ensure proper system cooling.

Position each rail between the two guides in the bay, as shown in the following figure.

While holding down on the rail, slide the rail into the bay until it locks in place.

Position the bay cover in front of the empty bay so the arrow on each side points up for
the minitower position or to the right for the desktop configuration.

Insert one tab on the cover into its slot in the rail, then press the cover in until the other
tab snaps into its slot in the rail.
