All systems ship with one internal 3 1/2-inch hard disk (1-inch high, thin-height) installed
behind the front panel in the bottom slot in the drive cage. The three-connector hard disk
drive cable plugs into the primary connector on the system board. An optional second hard
drive can be connected to the middle connector on the primary IDE cable. A third hard
drive (in a 5 1/4-inch accessible slot) can be connected to the middle connector on the
secondary IDE cable. The secondary IDE cable connects the CD-ROM reader to the system
board. The standard hard disk drive is set as the master device on the primary IDE/PCI port
(see Figure 1-2). Use the Storage Device Installation procedures in Section 3 when
installing optional devices.

SIX-SPEED CD-ROM
A six-speed CD-ROM reader comes pre-installed as drive E. The reader can be used to load
programs from a CD or it can be used to play audio CDs. The reader operates at different
speeds depending on whether the CD contains music or data. The reader is fully compatible
with Kodak Multisession Photo CDs™ and standard CDs.
CD-ROM Reader Operation
Use the CD-ROM reader to load and start programs from a CD or to play audio CDs. The
CD-ROM reader has the following controls and indicators (see Figure 1-3):

jack for connecting headphones with a stereo mini-jack plug
n
volume control for adjusting the headphone volume
n
busy lamp that lights during read operations
n
eject/reject button for opening or closing the CD tray when the power is on
n
CD tray that opens and closes when the eject/retract button is pressed
