ZIP OR JAZ DRIVE
Some systems come with an Iomega Zip or Jaz drive. The Zip drive is an IDE data storage
device that writes data on and reads data from removable Zip disks. The Jaz drive is a SCSI
device that writes data on and reads data from removable Jaz disks. The disks are flexible
media contained in durable plastic cartridges. The Zip drive supports removable cartridges
with a formatted capacity of 100 MB. The Jaz drive supports removable cartridges with a
formatted capacity of 1 GB. The drives can be used to back up work, archive old files, and
transport work between computers.
The Zip or Jaz drive is installed in a 5 1/4-inch accessible slot. The installed drive is
connected to an IDE or SCSI cable that connects to the system board’s IDE or SCSI
connectors. The channel and configuration settings of the drives depend on the specific
configuration of the system. Zip drive specifications are given in Table 1-40. Jaz drive
specifications are given in Table 1-41.
