UNIVERGE WL Access Point (External-Antenna) Quick Installation Guide

Step 1: Collecting Required Tools and Supplies

Step 1: Collecting Required Tools and Supplies

One UNIVERGE WL AP or UNIVERGE WL 1200R per location.

UNIVERGE WL AP and UNIVERGE WL 1200R Mounting Kits, factory-

supplied with each UNIVERGE WL AP.

Optional UNIVERGE WL AP and UNIVERGE WL 1200R Mounting Kits, 

factory-orderable.

Optional external AC-to-DC power supplies, factory-orderable.

Optional external 802.11b/g antennas.

Map showing UNIVERGE WL AP and UNIVERGE WL 1200R locations, and 
mounting and power options.

Screwdrivers, drills, and ladder.

An assortment of sheet metal and drywall screws and toggle bolts. 

CAT-5 (or higher) cables to connect the UNIVERGE WL AP and 

UNIVERGE WL 1200R locations and the UNIVERGE WL Wireless 
Controller or other network device.

Optional Kensington MicroSaver Security Cable to secure each 
UNIVERGE WL AP and UNIVERGE WL 1200R.

The following procedures are designed to make sure that your UNIVERGE WL AP 

physical installation goes smoothly and that initial operation is as expected. If 
you are unable to prepare your UNIVERGE WL AP for deployment, this Step also 
describes RMA (Return Material Authorization) procedures.

Preparing a Version 1.2 UNIVERGE WL AP

 for installation in a Version 

2.0 UNIVERGE WL System

NOTE

When mounting UNIVERGE WL APs and UNIVERGE WL 1200Rs, make sure 

to maintain a 20 cm (8 in.) separation between the UNIVERGE WL APs or 

UNIVERGE WL 1200Rs and bystanders to comply with FCC RF exposure 

regulations. Refer to th

FCC Statements for UNIVERGE WL APs

 section 

for more information.

NOTE

Refer to the UNIVERGE WL System Release Notes for 802.11a external 

antenna information. Contact NEC Corporation for a list of approved 

802.11a and 802.11b/g external antennas. 

NOTE

Perform either of the following two procedures on each UNIVERGE WL AP 

or UNIVERGE WL 1200R BEFORE deploying the UNIVERGE WL AP or 

UNIVERGE WL 1200R in its final location.
