1. FIELD OF APPLICABILITY
This connector is an anchoring element according to the norm EN 362:2004. It can be used
as an element or component of personal protective equipment against falls from a height
pursuant to norm EN 363.
2. WARNINGS
- Before using this product, read these instructions thoroughly and keep them in a safe place.
- If re-selling this product outside the first country of destination, the retailer must provide these
instructions written in the language of the country of use of the product.
- Working at heights is risky, and only a person in a perfect state of health and good physical
condition can do such work and handle possible emergency situations.
- This piece of equipment is a vital safety component; incorrect use would place the user in
mortal danger in the event of a fall.
- It is reminded that in a fall arrest system, only an EN361 fall arrest harness may be used to
hold the body.
- It is advisable to allocate this product to a single individual who will be the only person to
use it.
- This product may only be used by a trained and skilled person or under the supervision of
such a person.
- Make sure that before and during use, a rescue plan is established and known, so that an
effective and totally safe intervention is possible.
3. USE
The connectors are made up of a connector body equipped with an automatic clasp that
opens towards the inside. A locking system activated manually or automatically, prevents any
accidental opening. The main components are of galvanized steel, aluminum alloy or stainless
steel.
To use the connector:
- Unlock it.
- Press on the clasp towards the inside of the connector.
- Engage the connector to the element or the component to connect to.
- Release the clasp, which should return to its initial position.
- Lock the connector, if it is not automatic.
The opening of the class is shown in the table below column «a”. The resistance of the closed
and locked connector is shown on the connector after the symbol
↔
: capacity in the direction
of its large axis. It is not recommended to apply force to the connector at its clasp. Be particularly
careful with regard to the direction of forces in cases using long lanyards or major sections. In
this case the maximum load should be reduced. Connectors with manual locking should only
be used in cases where the user doesn’t have to close and open them frequently during his
workday. For fall arrest systems it is essential for safety reasons that the structural anchoring
point where the fall arrest system will be attached be above the user, that it have static
resistance of at least 12 kN and fulfill the requirements of norm EN795. If the anchoring point
has been in place for a long time, verify it is in good condition. Avoid being too far away from
the plumb line for this anchoring in order to limit the height and range of a possible fall, which
could in addition be pendulum.
Before each use of a fall arrest system, it is imperative to verify the free space (clearance) required
under the user’s feet, so that in case of a fall, there will not be a collision either with the ground
or with an obstacle that is fixed or in motion that is within the trajectory. During the use of the
hook element in a fall arrest system, the length of said element should be taken into account
since it influences the height of the fall.
During the combining of the fall arrest system with other safety components, verify the
compatibility of each of the components and be careful to apply all the recommendations in
the product notices and the applicable standards relative to fall arrest systems. Be particularly
careful that the safety function of one of these components isn’t affected by the safety
