INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL NEWBURN WOOD FIRED HEATING
UNITS
GENERAL
The installation of the NEWBURN should be carried out by a competent tradesman with experience
in Central Heating and Flue installation. The installation must comply with the AS 2918 (Domestic
solid fuel burning appliances - Installation) applicable Building Regulations, local Electrical Authority
Regulations and any other relevant Statutory Regulations.
A notice of intention to install may be requested by the local Municipal Authority.
The Newburn is suitable for burning dry wood only and is not designed to burn briquettes or coal.
Severe damage will result if fossil fuels or accelerants are used.
INSTALLATION
Where local regulations allow, the Newburn can be installed internally.
Example - In a storeroom or under the dwelling provided that there is a minimum 50mm air space
around the sides, back and above the unit from combustible surfaces. Also the unit should be
installed on a level concrete slab of not less than 50 mm thickness.
FLUE INSTALLATIONS
The flue must be 150 mm diameter of 0.6 mm, stainless steel and all joints be sealed and lapped so
that the lower section of flue is entered into the top section of the adjoining piece. This will stop any
condensation or creosote leaking out of the horizontal joints. The flue should be a minimum of 3.6 M
high triple flue system in accordance with the requirements of AS2918.
Offsets in the flue should be avoided wherever possible. Where unavoidable, the offset should be of
a maximum of 45 degrees and as short as possible,
The flue will require maintenance during the lifetime of the heater and should not be built in to an
inaccessible position.
Fit a cap to the flue to prevent rainwater entry when the central heating unit is not burning as water
combined with creosote deposits inside the flue are highly corrosive to the firebox.
