Adjustable Upper Shoulder Belt Anchorage
Some shoulder belts can be adjusted upward or downward to help position the belt away
from your neck. Push on the anchorage cover to release the anchorage, and then move it
up or down to the position that serves you best.
Child Restraint
Everyone in your vehicle needs to be buckled up all the time. Every state in the United
States and all Canadian provinces require that small children ride in proper restraint
systems. This is the law, and you can be prosecuted for ignoring it.
There are different sizes and types of restraints for children from newborn size to the
child almost large enough for the adult seat belt. Use the restraint that is correct for your
child:
•
The restraint must be appropriate for your child's weight and height.
Check the label on the restraint for this, too.
•
Carefully follow the instructions that come with the restraint.
If you install the restraint improperly it may not work when you need it
•
Buckle the child into the restraint exactly as the manufacturer's
instructions tell you.
MAINTAIN YOUR RESTRAINT SYSTEM
Periodically examine your restraint equipment to be sure it functions correctly and to be sure
there are no worn or broken components that either needs repair or replacement. Damaged parts
must be replaced immediately. Do not disassemble or modify the system.
Restraint equipment must be replaced after an accident if they have been damaged. If
there is any question regarding belt or retractor condition, replace the belt.
It is a good idea to have your restraint system inspected during each periodic scheduled
maintenance session.
WARNING
A frayed or torn belt could rip apart in a collision and leave you with no protection. Inspect
the belt system periodically, checking for cuts, frays, or loose parts. Damaged parts must
be replaced immediately. Do not disassemble or modify the system. Seat belt assemblies
must be replaced after an accident if they have been damaged (bent retractor, torn
webbing, etc.)
Safety Belt Maintenance
If the belts need cleaning, use a mild soap solution or lukewarm water. Do not remove
the belts from the vehicle to wash them.
