SECURITY ROLES FOR GCOS SERVER
The AttributeImporter tool uses the standard security model used by
GCOS and GCOS Manager. This model is controlled by the Roles tab
in GCOS Manager. The following Roles are required for the operation
specified:
• Read Process Database - required for any initial sample creation
• Update Process Database - required to update any existing sample
with new attribute values
• Other User Data Access - needs to be set to Yes to update samples
that already exist that other users created through the GCOS user
interface
If running in local mode these Roles are ignored (no security), so all
new samples will be created and existing samples will be updated.
See
Chapter 15, GCOS Manager
, in the
Affymetrix GeneChip
®
Operating
System User’s Guide
, for information on setting up roles.
Displaying Data in Virtual Arrays
The VirtualSet tool allows you to group arrays based on common
sample attributes; the data for a resulting group can be displayed in
one column of the SNP table in the mapping analysis window. This
tool is useful when you have analyzed a single sample on two different
arrays of different types.
For example, the SNPs for the Affymetrix GeneChip
®
Human
Mapping 100K Set are placed on two arrays, the GeneChip Mapping
50K Xba array and the GeneChip
®
Mapping 50K Hind array. Each
sample must be analyzed with both chips to do a complete analysis,
and a typical mapping analysis experiment may involve the analysis of
hundreds of samples. If you have imported pedigree and other
attribute data for the samples, and if every sample can be uniquely
defined by a combination of these attributes, you can use the
VirtualSet tool to group the data by sample.
Typically, samples will have one or more attributes which uniquely
identify the sample. Familiar examples of identifiers are SSN and first
