Scan Pitch
There are two types of scan
P
ITCH
, integer or non-integer. The scan
P
ITCH
can be
any integer or non-integer between 1 and 25.
Integer Pitch, e.g.
P
ITCH
= 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 produces data that is cleaner and scans
that are faster, but may not be sized to your exact desired dimensions.
Non-integer Pitch, e.g.
P
ITCH
= 1.5, 2.233, or 6.1, produces scans that require
interpolation to reach an exact size. Interpolation is the process by which the Nikon
Scanner plug-in reduces the number of pixels to fit the precise resolution requested.
Whenever possible, it is recommended to use Integer Pitch settings. For example,
suppose that a desired
W

,
H

and

INAL
R
ESOLUTION
produces a
P
ITCH
of
2.05. In this case, forcing the
P
ITCH
to 2.0 while accepting the slight modification to
F
INAL
R
ESOLUTION
results in cleaner and faster scanning, and the final resolution can be
adjusted by interpolation in post-processing.
