Flexible Call Routing (cont’d)
Q
In a screened transfer (TRF):
The NT Voice Mail transfers the call to the extension and then checks to see whether or
not the extension picked up the call. If the extension user does not pick up the call, the NT
Voice Mail plays the extension status message (Extension XXX is busy) and lets the caller
leave a message or select a different routing option. After leaving a message, the caller can
return to the Automated Attendant, dial another extension, and sometimes perform more
functions, depending on how the extension's Next Call Routing Mailbox is programmed.
If the extension user's mailbox greeting is recorded and turned on, the NT Voice Mail will
not make the screened transfer; the Voice Mail immediately plays the greeting and then
lets the caller leave a message or dial another routing option. However, if the greeting is
off and the extension user does not pick up after call transfer, the NT Voice Mail will play
the greeting instead of the extension status message.
Q
In an unscreened transfer (UTRF):
The NT Voice Mail transfers the call to the extension and releases it. If the extension user
does not pick up, the unanswered call is handled by the phone system.
Note: A Subscriber, Guest, or Message Center extension can be specially programmed, so that it
receives only Automated Attendant transfers (“Transfer-only”). As a result of these transfers,
callers do not get a chance to leave a message, when the transfer is incomplete. This application
is typically used for transfers to FAX machines.
Programming
Q
Customize, Dial Action Tables
Assign an Action and Number to each dialpad key (0
–
9,
*
, and
#
) in the Dial Action Table
(DAT). TIMEOUT is reserved for the action that the NT Voice Mail should perform if the caller
does not press one of these keys.
(For instructions, see Customizing Dial Action Tables in the Programming Guide.)
Q
Customize, Mailbox Options, Edit, Mailbox
#
Assign a DAT to a Call Routing Mailbox.
Q
Customize, Answering Schedule Tables
Assign the Call Routing Mailbox to an Answering Schedule Table (AST).
Transfer to an Automatic Call Distribution Group
When all extensions in the group are busy, the caller can wait for an available extension.
Go to a mailbox
The caller who accesses a mailbox can use the features programmed for that mailbox.
Select Voice Prompts in Another Language
The Automated Attendant caller can press a single code to switch from one language to
another.
Leave a Quick Message
A caller dials a single-digit code and someone’s extension number in order to leave a message
in that person's mailbox. There is no need to call the person's extension first. After leaving the
message, the caller can either return to the Automated Attendant or reroute the call to a pre-
programmed destination.
Access the Directory Dialing feature
A caller dials the first few letters of a person's name to connect to that person's extension. Or
the caller could dial
TRAIN,
for example, to connect to an announcement about train sched-
ules.
