CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Can I overcharge my battery?
No, the included solar charge controller regulates
against any overcharge.
Why does my battery not appear to
be charging?
It is common to have issues with 12 V batteries, check
their voltage regularly. Some batteries may not reach
the charge controller’s designated ‘FULL’ status. This is
normal, as there are many different battery technol-
ogies. Battery usage and condition can also affect
this behaviour.
Can my panel be left outdoors
without a protective covering?
Yes, the solar panel has been weatherproofed and
can be mounted outdoors without any additional
protection.
Is the solar charge controller
weatherproofed?
No the solar charge controller must be used in a dry
and well-ventilated environment.
Can I test the panel and/or charge
controller with a multimeter?
Yes, in open circuit (panel not connected to the con-
troller or battery) under full sun a multimeter should
read 16 – 21 Volts DC. When the charge controller is
connected to the panel (again without connecting
to the battery) the voltage should still read 16 – 21
Volts DC.
Can I run my 110 V appliances with
my solar power system?
Yes, you can run 110 V appliances with the use of an
inverter (not included) which would attach to your
battery to change the battery’s 12 V (DC) energy
into 110 V (AC).
What kind of battery can I recharge?
See “Choosing Your Battery” on page 9.
