The device connected to the RS 232C
connector does not work.

Confirm that the correct connecting cable is being used.
"
Confirm that the application software supports the RS 232C in-
terface functions.

Confirm that in the Advanced menu of the Setup utility, “COM
Port” is not set to “Disabled.”
Infrared communications do not work.

Confirm that in the Advanced menu of the Setup utility, “IR Port”
is not set to “Disabled.”

Confirm that the mode that is set agrees with the other device.
The mode is set through “IR Type” in the Advanced menu of the
Setup utility.

When communicating with another computer: IrDA1.0 or
IrDA1.1, confirm that the infrared communications ports on the
pen computer and the other device are directly facing each oth-
er, that they are separated by only 5 to 30cm (2 to12”), and that
there are no obstructions between the two ports.

If communicating with a PDA (personal digital assistant) device,
confirm that there are batteries in the PDA and that it is set to
“personal computer linking” mode.
PC Cards Do Not Function (in MS DOS
Mode)

Confirm that there are no conflicts involving COM3, which is
used by cards, and COM1, which is used by other devices. This
is because COM1 is already used by other pen computer de-
vices. Use the Setup utility to change the COM port settings.
When a PC card uses COM3, set the “COM Port” item to “Dis-
abled.” Note that COM4 cannot be used by cards since it is
used by the touch panel.
