taneously. There are now six sound engines and two instances of each
effects unit available for use within one program.
With both panels active, one of the panel button LEDs will flash, indi-
cating which panel is focused for editing. To switch edit focus press the
corresponding panel button. To disable one panel, and return to a single
panel setup, hold the button of the panel that should be kept and press
the other one.

moNo oUT
Enable
MONO OUT
(Shift + Panel a button) to set the out-
puts of the Stage 3 sound sources and effects to
mono
.
This is a global setting which will affect
all
programs until
it is deactivated or the Nord Stage 3 is turned off.
DUaL KB
The
DUAL KB
feature allows for playing and controlling Panel B from an
external mIDI keyboard, connected to the mIDI Input of the Nord Stage
3.
The Stage 3 keyboard now controls Panel a while the external keyboard
controls Panel B. Note that the sounds on Panel B are not accessible
from the Stage 3 keyboard while in Dual KB mode. This feature is very
handy in live situations, where a secondary keyboard can be used as a
controller for Panel B of the Nord Stage 3, on a per-program basis.
another advantage with the Dual KB mode is that all parameter controls
for either panel are accessible from the Nord Stage 3. as an example,
the drawbar settings on Panel B - played from the external keyboard -
can be adjusted simultaneously as the sound on Panel a is being played
from the Stage 3 keyboard.
The Dual KB setting is stored with a Program, along with all other Panel
settings.
M
The MIDI Channel for the Dual KB feature is set in the MIDI Menu
on the Stage 3. Read more on this on page 54.
SHIFT / EXIT BUTToN
many buttons - and some knobs - have a
secondary
function
which is accessed by holding
SHIFT
and pressing the button
or turning the knob. Shift activated functions are always print-
ed
below
the corresponding control. For example, holding
Shift and pressing the Program 3 button will open up the mIDI
menu.
The Shift button is also used to
EXIT
menus, or for cancelling Store
operations.
LIvE moDE
The Nord Stage 3 has five easy-to-access Live program locations,
differing from other programs in that any edits to them are
automatically
stored
. When exiting a Live Program or powering off the machine all
edits are saved, without the need for a manual Store operation. To select
a Live Program, press
LIVE MODE
and then any of the
1-5
buttons in the
Program area.
If a Live location is selected and you wish to store the settings perma-
nently to a program bank location, you can do so using the standard
methods. a regular program can also be stored into a Live program
location, in which case its settings will replace the current Live memory
settings.
Prog INIT
The
PROG INIT
(Shift + Live mode button) functions can
be used to quickly set-up the active panel to one of four
basic scenarios, which serve as good starting points
when creating new programs:
Org
(organ): activates the organ section, and sets Source to organ for
all effects. other sound engines and the other panel are deactivated.
OrgSp
(organ Split): activates the organ section on both panels and
sets Source to organ for all effects. KB Split is turned on, with organ
a to the left and organ B to the right of the split point. all other sound
engines are deactivated.
Piano
: activates the Piano section and sets Source to Piano for all
effects. all other sound engines, as well as the other panel, are deacti-
vated.
Synth
: activates the Synth section and sets Source to Synth for all
effects. other sound engines and the other panel are turned off.
