SETUP AND OPERATION
BC 60 "Trailblazer" Brushcutter
Section 2-24
AUGUST/2012 (49458202)
MACHINE OPERATION
TO AVOID SERIOUS INJURY OR
DEATH, MAKE CERTAIN THAT THE
AREA AROUND AND UNDER THE
MACHINE IS CLEAR OF ALL
PERSONNEL AND OBSTRUCTIONS
BEFORE TRAVELLING OR WORKING.
FAILURE TO ENGAGE ALL LOCKUP
DEVICES BEFORE PROPELLING AT
TRAVEL SPEED CAN RESULT IN
INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR
DAMAGE TO THE MACHINE.
During
operations, operators MUST be
continuously on the lookout for hidden,
immovable, and uncuttable objects (such as
rocks, concrete, etc.). Contact with such hazards
may cause severe machine damage and would
pose a serious safety hazard.
It is strongly urged that operators get in the
routine of making frequent visual checks down
track for potential obstacles so as to be prepared
to take immediate corrective action.
It is suggested that a minimum of 1/4-mile
distance be maintained between the machine and
people, houses, cars, etc., while the machine is
being operated.
Never operate the machine in areas where people
may be hidden from view, near crossings, or in
double track territory. Always keep a lookout for
approaching trains and sections crews, etc.
OPERATING GUIDELINES FOR EXTENDED
LIFE OF MACHINE
The following operating techniques, guidelines
and do's and don'ts are provided that, when
followed, will maximize the life of this machine
and it's components. See next page for Operating
Instructions
1.
DO NOT SIDE-LOAD BOOMS
. Reduce
travel speed or stop before cutting dense
brush and trees. Ease into objects, allowing
cutterheads to do the work.
2.
Do not attempt to cut trees more than 4
inches in diameter.
3.
The Quick Stop feature allows "quick
stops" to be made while working at speeds of
less than 5 mph. Do not use it to creep or
"inch" along, which could be damaging to the
track drive system.
This requires that the
pump lever be neutralized before
releasing the brake pedal. Also, always
operate in second gear or third gear when
using the inching control feature.
4.
Adjustments to the pump and motor
controls must be carried out smoothly and
slowly.
5.
Leave motor control at low (turtle)
position except when pump control has been
moved to its maximum position and a further
speed increase is required. To slow down,
set motor control back to low position, before
adjusting pump control.
6.
Come to a complete stop before
changing machine direction.
7.
Come to a complete stop before
changing gears.
8.
Come to a complete stop before locking
or unlocking the suspension.
9.
For two operators, it is best to designate
one operator as responsible for the travel
controls.
10.
Adjust engine throttle control by slowly
rotating control knob.
11.
Do not cut in reverse or put any pressure
from the rear direction on the boom or
cutterheads. This will prevent buckling of the
boom swing cylinders.
12.
Angle cutterhead down with a forward
angle of attack (toward front of machine).
13.
Avoid jerky and harsh operation of boom
swing cylinders, and winches.
14.
Set booms in position and travel down
track; do not constantly swing booms.
