Provisioning and routing guidelines for Media Application Server
services
Pooled Entities are logical grouping of one or more Media Application
Servers. Pools are provisioned with the services they provide (Ad Hoc
Audio Conferencing, IM Chat, Meet Me Audio Conferencing, Music on Hold,
Announcements). The Pooled Entities are provisioned at the domain level
and can be assigned to sub domains once they are provisioned at the root
domain. Subscribers are routed to the Pooled Entities assigned to the
domains or subdomains to which they belong.
Thus, in a carefully planned network, users are routed to servers in physical
proximity to the user’s location, minimizing expensive communications
backhaul (see
Figure 42 "Using subdomains to map users to local service
instances" (page 105)
). For example, when a chairperson starts a Meet Me
Audio Conferencing call, the call is routed to the Meet Me Audio conference
server pool assigned to the chairperson’s domain or subdomain.
