Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet:
Network controller
configured for 100Mb full-duplex link.
To increase reliability, both Ethernet interfaces of a server are used in the
current release for connection to two separate switches. Furthermore,
depending upon the service offered, additional servers may be added to
achieve a higher degree of service availability.
See
"Network Considerations" (page 95)
for network connectivity details.
IBM xSeries 335 network connectivity
The IBM xSeries 335 network interface MUST operate at 100 Mbps and full
duplex to ensure quality and throughput. By default the Media Application
Server is configured to autonegotiate. The connecting Ethernet switch must
also be configured to autonegotiate or significant packet losses resulting
in poor voice quality occur. If the interfaces must be manually forced, both
the Media Application Server and the connecting Ethernet switch should be
forced to 100 Mbps Full duplex. This can be achieved by configuring both
the switch and the interface to 100 Mbps full duplex. If only one side (switch
or interface) is configured autonegotiate and the other configured to 100
Mbps full duplex, there is a duplex mismatch and the interface is forced to
operate at half duplex. The initial factory setting for the server is auto. The
MAS server should only be connected to Ethernet switches; hubs should
not be used because they only operate in half duplex.

depending upon the service offered, additional servers may be added to
achieve a higher degree of service availability.
To check that it is operating at 100 Mbps full duplex you must open the
Event Viewer (from the MAS management console) and locate the following
system log that indicates the current speed of the Broadcom interface. The
log is from source Blfm, category None, event 9:

IBM eServer BladeCenter and BladeCenter T network
connectivity
These platforms are deployed with two Ethernet Switch modules (ESM).
Each ESM has four external 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet interfaces for
connection to the external network. The ESM network interfaces must be
configured to operate at 1000 Mbps. Use CAT 6 cables to connect to the
ESMs.
